Behind The Scenes 

Experience what it takes to make an event a memorable experience; a glimpse into the people, processes and products that make events successful. 

The EduTour provide exciting ways to learn outside of a typical conference setting. Attendees will venture into the city and visit local small businesses for a hands-on look at the unique practices that make them successful.

All buses will depart at 8:00 a.m. and return by 5:00 p.m.

Earn Continuing Education Credits 
EduTours are tentatively worth 4 CEs for CAE and CMP certification/recertification. These hours have not been submitted for pre-approval. Attendees will need to manually submit CMP hours to the EIC.

8:30 - 10:30 a.m.

How do you take an unconventional venue or space and make it work for a social or educational event? Join us for a kickoff breakfast, and panel discussion from Non-traditional venue representatives.  Then interact in areas of the Museum to see how The Henry Ford knows how to make it work, Walls or no walls!

Detroit Experience Factory (DXF) Guided Step on Tour 
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

The themes that are shaping major cities right now are community, collaboration, and creativity. You will see how those themes work into the hospitality industry to create innovative ways convention attendees can become part of the City they are visiting.  You’ll see neighborhoods developing unique venues, Greenspaces, restaurants, retail and convention solutions to accommodate the growing challenges for today’s planners.

Detroit Eastern Market 
12:00 - 1:30 p.m.

Eastern Market is the largest historic public market district in the United States; Detroit Experience Factory (DXF) will showcase the true Farm to Table experience and attendees will learn about sustainability for fresh foods in a large urban setting.  A scavenger hunt will guide attendees through the areas of the market which has been in the Detroit landscape for 150 years.

Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center
2:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Join Brett Montgomery C.E.C., Executive Chef for a behind the scenes tour of the vast kitchen at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.  We will see firsthand demonstrations on preparation, kitchen safety and sanitation, and answer the age old question of how do they get 200 plated hot meals out of the kitchen and served at the same time?!

Little Caesars Arena
3:15 - 4:15 p.m.

The District Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena serves as the home of the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Pistons and countless other sports, entertainment and community events.   We will get a behind the scenes look at what it takes to set-up and host events of these magnitudes and provide “out of the box thinking” ideas for Planners in event management.
