Behind The Scenes 

Experience what it takes to make an event a memorable experience; a glimpse into the people, processes and products that make events successful. 

The EduTour provide exciting ways to learn outside of a typical conference setting. Attendees will venture into the city and visit local small businesses for a hands-on look at the unique practices that make them successful.

All buses will depart at 8:00 a.m. and return by 4:00 p.m.

Earn Continuing Education Credits 
EduTours are tentatively worth 3 CEs for CAE and CMP certification/recertification. These hours have not been submitted for pre-approval. Attendees will need to manually submit CMP hours to the EIC.

  Meet Outside Crystal Center Lobby for Bus Ride to Breakfast
8:00 a.m.


Michigan Legacy Art Park
8:30 - 10:00 a.m.

Enjoy breakfast in nature followed by a one-hour session. We will hike the Art Park trail to the amphitheater, observing 20 sculptures along the way from the park's permanent collection, plus ephemeral works, and temporary exhibits. The group will hear from MLAP Communications and Special Projects Manager, Troy DeShano about the nonprofit arts organization and the unique value it brings. There will be time for discussion about strategic community partnerships--including the special relationship between Crystal Mountain and MLAP--as well as processes for designing and marketing programs that impact both visitors to the area and the local community while attracting corporate sponsors to be involved in the mission.

The Garden Theater
10:45 a.m. - 11:45 p.m.

Originally built in 1923 and renovated beginning in 2008, the Garden Theater shows first-run, independent and foreign films, and is home to the annual Frankfort Film Festival. Presentations from The Garden Theater and the Oliver Art Center.

Exploring Alternative Meeting Spaces and Agendas
Let's think outside the cubicle and explore creative spaces and enriched agendas for meetings. Learn how art (the act of making or just being around it in creative spaces) improves cognitive abilities, memory, reduces stress, and increases productivity in the workplace. Then learn ways to incorporate art and creativity in your meeting to enhance your objectives. 

Advancing Marketing, Brand Loyalty and Economic Impact of Events
Learn new tools on innovative marketing initiatives to communicate with members to build loyalty & brand. Discover how to advance the conversation between local government entities, businesses and associations to understand the economic impact outside of the room revenue. Take away outside the box, off property ideas and success stories to incorporate at your own events.

Lunch with Beer Pairing at Hotel Frankfort
12:15 - 1:30 p.m.

Enjoy lunch and beer pairing from Stormcloud Brewing Company at the historic Hotel Frankfort, centered in Frankfort’s historic Main Street, just two blocks from one of the most picturesque beaches of Lake Michigan.

 

Frankfort Beach
1:45 - 2:00 p.m.

After lunch, take a short walk to take advantage of this photo opportunity at Frankfort Beach, located on the beautiful Lake Michigan.

 

Iron Fish Distillery
2:30 - 3:45 p.m.

Inside of four years, Iron Fish Distillery went from a dream to convert a longtime abandoned farm along a dirt road, into Michigan’s first farm distillery, and a 2018 Michigan’s 50 Company to Watch.  This family owned adventure and learning journey is organized around  simple principle, “Returning Spirit To Its Origin”, operating four interrelated enterprises, including a working farm, a state-of-art distillery, wholesale spirits sales, and an agricultural end destination attracting over 70,000 guest annually.  

This one-hour session explores the connection between values, quality and authentic experiences, that underlies a brand striving to transcend traditional approaches for instilling brand loyalty to inspiring brand affection.  Enjoy a tasting of four Iron Fish spirits, while  company founders  and the Director of Creative and Marketing share the journey of Iron Fish from an inside perspective.
