Look Out World

People at a conference
Yesterday while driving into the office, I was visited by a memory from years ago. I remembered the sun shining in through floor-to-ceiling windows, the dull throb of feet sore from untold hours and mileage, and the physical static often present after long days and physical work. I felt the anticipation of being reacquainted with people I liked and cared about and seeing how they would receive the product of all that hard work. And, as powerfully as if it was happening at that moment, I remembered the warm satisfaction of having worked shoulder to shoulder with a team to create something good.

There are a lot of things we're missing right now, personally and professionally, due to quarantines, shutdowns, and work-from-home. But I think this memory captures what so many of our association and hospitality friends are missing. We miss the electricity of bringing our members together, seeing their smiles, and hearing their laughter. We miss celebrating their work and accomplishments. And we miss the fellowship shared with coworkers and volunteers while working cooperatively during good and challenging times. This is the feedback so many of us are missing from our work.

Have heart. Remember that satisfaction of co-creation and the pleasure of camaraderie. Use those memories to get you through. You've demonstrated remarkable endurance throughout this ordeal, and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there just a while longer. Before you know it, you'll be making magic again. Look out, World!
