Five Great Reasons to Serve on MSAE's Board and Committees

Posted By: Donna Oser, CAE Announcements, Blog,

MSAE is calling for association executives, professionals, and industry partners to express your interest in serving MSAE as a Board Member, Committee Chair, and Committee Volunteer. Could volunteering with MSAE be right for you? Read on to see.

What's In It for You? Five Benefits of Serving

We asked current and past MSAE volunteers how volunteering for the association benefitted them. Here are the five most common benefits they cited:

  1. It expanded and strengthened my professional network
  2. It helped me build leadership skills and advanced my career
  3. I enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with colleagues
  4. It felt good to give back to the industry that serves me so well
  5. I liked having a voice in how MSAE serves the association industry

Meaningful Experiences and Varied Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities include serving as a Committee Volunteer (fewer than 1.5 hours per month), Committee Chair (fewer than 2 hours per month), and Board Member (fewer than 3 hours per month).

Members who enjoy working with others to co-create or who have ideas to improve programs may enjoy serving on one of the following planning committees:

  • Annual Conference
  • Meetings & Education Summit
  • Public Policy Roundtable
  • Spring Golf

Members who want to sharpen their skills or broaden their association experience may enjoy serving on one of the following committees:

  • Awards Committee
  • Membership Committee

Members with a deep understanding of the association industry who are interested in working on designing and creating MSAE's future should consider serving on MSAE's Board of Directors.

Ara Topouzian, Executive Director of the Michigan Venture Capital Association and Immediate Past Chairman of MSAE, is leading the Society's Leadership Identification Committee and nominations process this year. "There is a wide array of opportunities to get involved in MSAE. We look forward to matching our members' interests and available time with volunteer experiences that will be meaningful to them."
