Professional Bio
David E. Herbel, BA, MSA, NHA, TTEE, RL, is President and CEO of LeadingAge Michigan and a driving force behind innovation in aging services. With more than 35 years of healthcare experience, he combines strategic leadership, policy influence, and entrepreneurial execution to deliver results for mission-driven providers.
Since 2006, he has strengthened LeadingAge Michigan’s role as a leading advocate for nonprofit providers, shaping policy, funding, and regulatory strategies that protect and advance care for older adults.
David has built high-impact, member-driven solutions, including co-founding Value First in 2010 to leverage national purchasing power, launching Senior Care Resources in 2014 to improve outcomes and managed care performance, and creating Mission Based Health Benefits (MBHB) in 2023—one of Michigan’s only MEWAs—to reduce costs, increase benefit control, and support workforce recruitment and retention.
A proven strategist and collaborator, David continues to position members—and the seniors they serve—for long-term success.
