Organization Overview
Founded in 1891, the Michigan Library Association (MLA) is Michigan’s oldest and largest statewide library organization, representing public, academic, school, tribal, and special libraries. MLA serves as the unified voice for libraries and library personnel across the state.
Our collaborative network of more than 2,500 libraries, library professionals, trustees, and supporters works together to protect and promote libraries, support sustainable funding, and advance high-quality library services for all Michigan residents. Guided by our mission to lead the advancement of Michigan libraries through advocacy, professional development, and engagement, and our vision of Strong libraries, strong communities, stronger Michigan, MLA champions libraries as essential institutions that expand access to information, foster lifelong learning, and strengthen communities statewide.
